It takes a little getting used to, but I like how it’s possible to play all the songs in a set at once. The new stages are great, too. Overall great game.

Guitar hero world tour is really great. Our whole family loves it. You can set up a microphone and sing along. The music is really good too.

    We love it!

Great follow-up to Guitar Hero III. I won’t buy new guitars, so I don’t have the slider functionality, but there are a lot of great songs in this game and a lot most customization than GH3.

The new guitar, cel shaded notes, song list, and touch pad are phenomenal. Playing along with the original songs and not covers is worth the price of admission alone, and AT LAST we get a freestyle session/music studio. You can jump right in after the tutorials with the music studio, but the GHMIX and its capablities look to take a bit more practice, both provide serious ability to improvise and try to make your own covers/originals and the open mic freestyle ability allows for vocals but w/out recording capabilities,(unless you output to your own recording device.) Being able to record keyboard melodies for in game play makes up for this. The NEW Beginner mode is great for kids as it offers a rhythm only track (with no notes to hit), I played it through a few songs and it is actually kind of fun, and my son loves it and all the different keyboard sounds in the studio as well. The guitar can wobble(not side to side like GHIIIS but up and down) however the old folded piece of paper trick works great and stabilizes it completely. Also the 3 to 6 song career playlists offer no break unless you fail or pause and quit, so you tend to play through the whole set, which can lead to repetitive motion injury (like I am feeling now, after about 20+ hours with this game.) I can find little to fault as everything works as promised, even the touch pad which takes a bit of practice starts feeling like second nature over time. The evolution of this series is looking awesome guitarwise. Finally that plastic GH guitar in the corner is an actual instrument of sorts.

I’m really not sure what to make out of this game – I purchased this New for [...] bucks, so I can’t complain too much. I bought GHWT shortly after purchasing and getting to the end of GH3, figuring that the gameplay would be as much fun, but I was sorely mistaken. First and foremost on my list of gripes (I know I said I wouldn’t complain too much, but…) it doesn’t save unless you complete an entire set, which I don’t always want to do. Sometimes I come home from work and just want to play one song to add to my career – I can’t do that with this game.

I’m not a total nub to gaming, but even choosing a gig doesn’t seem that intuitive. I seem to keep winding up on screen that wants me to play some Swedish death metal gig. What’s up with that?!?

As other reviewers noted, there is a vast chasm between difficulties here. It’s too boring to play on Easy but then you ramp it up to Medium and the notes are flying at you like crazy. With RB, I generally play guitar and drums on Medium, bass on Hard and vocals on Expert. I can’t do anything above Easy on any of the GH games. Perhaps, this has something to do with the syncing/calibration of the instruments, which doesn’t seem to be as dead on as RB. To be honest, this may be more of an issue with the PS3 because I’ve played GH2 on Xbox 360 and the guitar seemed to be completely lag-free. But alas, even with GH2, Medium is much harder than it should be.

Couple that with graphics that just don’t seem to be as good as GH3 (especially in the ‘choose a gig’ area – I’ve seen Flash games that have better visuals), World Tour just seemed like something that Activision knocked out quickly to earn a few bucks.

Now I will say that GH does have a more solid stable of songs and artists than the Rock Band franchise – at least that’s my own personal preference.

Another comment about the music, I can’t fault either franchise for overlap in tunes, but I don’t like having some of the same songs on both RB and GH, it feels like a bit of a rip off. But that’s coming from someone who likes a vast array of music and would generally like to be playing something new all of the time.

So this game sat on my shelf with all of the other PS3 games that I figured I would get around to eventually. I’m not even sure if I’ll try to play it again, since I’ve now purchased Rock Band 1 and 2 and definitely prefer the gameplay there to any of the GH games that I’ve tried.

Sure, I’ll probably pop in GH3 from time to time to play a couple of my favorite songs on there, but I don’t honestly forsee myself even attempting to complete World Tour, unless I find myself laid off from my job with a lot of free time on my hands.

It’s not completely horrible, but there are better options out there. The best thing I can say is that this is a cheap way to kill time.
